Android remote for Smart TVs
An Android remote-control UI for smart TVs at the Xfinity Silicon Valley Innovation Center: a working prototype integrated with the Xfinity X1.
The Xfinity X1 experience was built around a classic numeric-keypad remote. It needed to be reimagined for a custom Samsung Android touch device, trading physical buttons for a graphical interface fit for the ultra-high-resolution TVs debuting at CES.
Contracted into the Xfinity Innovation Center in Sunnyvale, I worked in a fast-paced agile team alongside Engineering, Product and Industrial Design to prototype the 'Samsung PX': a custom touch-screen remote and app that integrated with the Xfinity X1, simplifying a dense button layout into a modern, graphics-led touch experience.
The full-featured 'super-remote' proved that apps could replace buttons to control the TV experience. The Samsung PX prototype and research carried into other Xfinity projects. Work now shipping as Xfinity Stream.
